St. Mary's Catholic Junior School Newsletter

No: 2016-17

Friday 30th September 2016

Dear Parents,

I have written some of this newsletter to you remotely as on Thursday and Friday Miss O’Callaghan and I are attending the Education Commission Headteachers’ Conference in Ashford. Other details are included by our Senior Leadership Team.

Communication survey
On Monday parents received the results of the survey conducted by the School Office about preferred methods of communication. The details are also available via the Junior School Blog on our website. It was a valuable process and will shape how we send messages to you in the future.

Book Fair
Many thanks to Mr Barnett and Miss Llewellyn and their team who have organised the Book Fair this week. It is an excellent opportunity for the children to browse books instead of searching on a screen! It is also beneficial to the school as a percentage of free books is allocated at the end of the week.

Ethos Visit
On Wednesday we welcomed Mr Daniel Coleman from the Education Commission to both schools. Mr Coleman is the Religious Education Adviser for the Diocese. I am happy to say that Mr Coleman had an excellent visit to our schools and spoke warmly about the wonderful children and the learning going on.

Data Collection - Nationality
Thank-you to all the parents who have already completed this important piece of data. The information is sent to the DfE for their records. If you have yet to complete the simple form, please do so. Spare forms are available from the office.

First Holy Communions
Registration forms: Available from the tables at the back of the Church. Please collect, read, complete and return to the Church. Kindly note that forms need to be returned no later than Mon 31st Oct. Please remember, if you need to make any enquiries regarding First Holy Communions
you should contact St. Mary’s Church and not the School.

October
October is a busy month for us all. Of highest importance is that it is the Month of the Holy Rosary, and a chance to come closer to God through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin.
It is also Black History Month, when we all celebrate the culture and history of those in our community of Caribbean, African and Asian heritage. Our main celebrations will be on Thursday 6th October when all the children will enjoy Dance Workshops.
Also be ready for a special menu from Mrs Fleming on 18th October- watch this space.

Assemblies
Congratulations to the children of Class 5V, who I understand from Mr Chappell presented an excellent assembly yesterday. All the future assembly dates are now on our website calendar. Next Thursday 6th October is the turn of Class 3K at 10.25am.
The achievement certificates this week go to Bedelia in 3B, Gabriel in 3K, Ben in 4C, Andrea and Obehi in 4D, Luz-Melina in 5L, Naomi and Christian in 5V, Bradley in 6C, Kelvin E and Daniel in 6O. The Musician of the week is Kelvine B in 6C. The Headteacher’s awards go to Adrienn in 3B and Christopher in 5V, and the Swimmer of the Week is Olesia in 3B.

Yours sincerely,
Mr McDonald & The Senior Leadership Team
